Finally, my final model is contructed this week. After some laser cutting, hand crafting, material selections and loads of drawings. The final model is here. I have used privacy glass, aluminium sheets, recycled Rimu and Kauri as my main materials. I have also discovered a new material is called Finite. It has the properties of concrete, but half of the weight, furthermore, it is made from desert sand not beach sand. For those of you who don't know the differences. Desert sand is a natural resource which is hardly used by manufacturing industries, it is abundant. However, beach sand is a limited resources.
I have designed a glass tunnel which acts as a transitional threshold point from dark (interior of the building) to light (exterior deck). Visitors pass through the tunnel will experience the threshold change which will be really sensational. An new deck will be connecting to the glass tunnel, from the deck, visitors can access to the three tree pods in the rainforest. A cafe and restaurant is proposed in my design too. There will be a massive oval shaped communal table locates through the 3 areas (interior of the building, the in between space of the glass tunnel and the outdoor deck). When it rains, the glass tunnel can be fully closed off.
