After a few weeks of exploration, we finally get the first part of the project complete - design a window treatment or wall covering. I proposed blinds for Sue's office in level 5 of WW building on the north and the east side of the windows. The blinds allow desired amount of lights come through by folding them to the required length.
The colours presented on the textiles are, mustard, shades of greys, yellow ochre, dark amber and dusty pink. Most of the interior colours mingle well with these rich earthy tones.
Last week, peer reviews were conducted to get feedback from our fellow students. This exercise was vastly beneficial and valuable. The feedback I received were well constructed. For example, a few student reviewers suggested to include rendered images of my textile as mock up window treatment.
Today, we were fortunate to have guest reviewer Sam Caradus and Dr Susan Hedges. Susan suggested an Italian artist and architect, Lauretta Vinciarelli, she used similar muted colour pallets as Giorgio Morandi, furthermore, she challenged the reason behind the choice of fabric to reflect the Watercolour properties of the drawings on the textile. Sam raised a question, which is that why should my window treatment being limited to Roman blinds only, should I be considering other interesting forms rather than the types which appeal to the general public. This was a helpful suggestion, why should window treatments being limited only to Roman blinds, roller blinds or curtains.
To summarise, this is only the start of the apartment project. There are a number of matters to consider before moving on to the next part of the project.
