Where did time go? I can't believe that we are now heading to the end of April, more than a quater of the year has gone by. One good thing is that, I am almost half way through my degree. Isn't that scary? During my mid-semester break, I have a list of tasks to complte, which include further reading and research of the 150+ designers, planning the next step of the Arataki project and learning more about Photoshop. Of course on top of that, there is my part-time work and enterintaining my son during his school holiday.
Back to our project of Arataki, I found the exposition session very helpful. It is very useful and practical to hear feedbacks from my fellow peers and our lecturers and guests. The three key ideas I have absorbed from the exposition session are: first, to build the outdoor play park to incorporate the exsisting ancient trees around, to design the shapes around those trees. Second, consider accessibility for everyone, e.g. wheelchair users and elderly. Third, consider how to incorporate play/activities for adults/parents. To summarise, I need to further develop the ideas of spatial conncections to nature and the functions of the play park in my next step of the project.
Finally, I summarised my contribution of the project as the followings:
Concept building and drawing of the initail and final wooden tree sturcture.
Fabrication and assembling of the wooden tree structure in the workshop.
Fabrication and asembling of the wooden triangle drawing device.
Drawing and painting on the vertical dark paper using the device made.
Concept building and making of the plaster landscape models.
Concept building and making of the ceremic landscape rings to be attached to the wooden tree.
Arataki site analysis and site mapping in watercolour.
Drawings of the floor plan, section plan and elevation plan in 1:50 scale.
Conceptual sketches of Arataki play park.
Preparation of files for laser cutting on Rhinoceros software.
Laser cutting at 3D lab.
Fabrication and assembly of final model and entrance threshold.
Writing the 300 words narrative of the project.
Editting of images in Photoshop.
